I agree with this proposal, thanks Jar0d for raising this issue.
No, the DAO is a-legal, not the same.
Could you please go into more detail into why do you think this would be beneficial?
100%

Yes, thatâs more appropriate definition, my bad.
Could you please go into more detail into why do you think this would be beneficial?
The DAO is not acting as a business right now.
( from HP comment, its not acting as a bussiness, but cannot act as it in a normal way, I guess for some reasons Foundation takes legal role on some things the DAO canât, which also cannot hire people in a normal and/or regulated way )
but well⌠with pros and cons I still love the product and the platform and I want the best for it, and what we can build⌠if we canâŚ
I believe the proposal lacks a more thoughtful specification and action plan. Without a clear approach in this sensitive topic, this could further divide the community and bring chaos. Maybe it makes sense to reduce at first expenses, not to cut everything down except Platform ?
For instance, where is the Governance Squad, GSS? There are some grants that will require further support after the GSS term limits end in 2024. Who will look after them? Also, regarding the Governance Squad, who will be responsible for the governance DApp in the second half of 2024 ?
I support the spirit of this proposal and am also pleased that our efforts are acknowledged.
However, I would like to strongly emphasize the importance of maintaining a minimum level of support for the Core Units category, including the Governance Squad and Grant Support Squad, because I believe theyâre essential for maintaining and addressing issues with the Governance dApp and ensuring accountability for the part of the Grants Program that will remain active.
Part of our strategy for a potential renewal is to lower our budget by 30-40%, so that will give other teams room to continue to serve this community using less resources.
Can the community use AI as an alternative consultant when planning DAO expenses?
How rational and authoritative is it to use AI as an objective expert?
No, we cannot.
We cannot delegate our future and strategy to a software which only role is the predict the most probable next word. That would be utterly stupid.
ChatGPT 4, which is considered the best right now, canât even code a simple scene with a single blue cube in Decentraland, even after giving it the whole documentation, and you want to give it responsability over DAO expenses?
I agree with this proposal.
But I think it wonât stop people from creating grant requests in platform category that has nothing to do with platform. For example, one of the past grants for migrating a game to SDK7: Open Source SammichGame SDK7 +Community tools.
There is nothing that can stop people to abuse this category as long as they get enough Yes votes on their proposal through politicking.
During the pause period it would be good if we could improve budget calculation for each quarter.
Currently in DAO docs it is written (Grants Program | Decentraland Documentation):
At the beginning of each quarter the maximum amount of money that can be allocated through the Grants Program is defined using the formula: 5,500,000 * MANA_PRICE * 0.7. This means the DAO at maximum capacity will be spending 70% of the MANA received from the vesting contract.
The last sentence is completely wrong. Because of the MANA price fluctuations it is possible to spend less than 70% of MANA if price rises or worse - spend MORE THAN 70% of MANA if price decreases during current quarter.
I cannot support this proposal. It not only lacks a clear implementation, but is also ignoring all the work done to support a healthy ecosystem that is nurtured along with other categories. We are looking forward to contributing to brand awareness, from an engaged community, and content creators building a healthy DAO.
Looking towards alignment with the foundation, and based on their recent manifesto, it will be important to join efforts to support in-world content and community experiences grant categories. And I 100% agree that more investment on the platform is needed. There is currently a governance proposal ongoing through February 8th, that looks forward to providing platform 50% of our Grants Program budget towards the category, and very much aligned to the spirit of this proposal.
A lot of the Platform technical capabilities and maintenance are done by the Decentraland Foundation, and the nature of platform grants are not only to contribute to those efforts such as Expanding DCL Explorers who are creating a mobile client, and building in other languages like Bevy or Godot, but also like other grantees do, to serve community needs with tooling.
An important part of Decentraland Platform IS actually the community of grantees, who are constantly reporting platform needs. And foremost, building the future of Decentraland is based not only on the technical, and reducing the grants program to only that aspect would close the opportunity for builders to understand our platform, our technology and to become the builders of the future, again, in our platform. Soul Magic, MetaGamiMall, Innkeeper.eth, The Metaverse Motorshow RaceTrack on in-world content, Decentraland Ambassadors on Sponsorship, Decentraland Ed on Documentation are only a few examples of grantees who are doing relevant work on contributing towards this joint effort.
And to be honest, merging the Core Units into a Facilitation Squad would be counterproductive to our teams, as we have different focuses of work, and constant alignment on a joint team would only make things slower and weâd lose agility. Having the work in different teams helps to be critical among the core units on each otherâs work (in a very constructive way), and that is achieved by the distance of our day to day activities.
Whoever votes yes on this proposal is minimizing all the work that the community of grantees in other categories is doing today.
Donât you get paid $150 an hour by the DAO Grants Program?
Wouldnât you say, even if Iâm mistaken, and that you only make $50 or $100 an hour for your work on the GSS, that it would make you incapable of giving an unbiased opinion?
Building on a broken foundation is not the way to build something capable of standing the test of time.
I find it disheartening that it required Esteban supporting this final stage of governance for you or anyone else on the GSS to articulate an opinion or most of the community to offer feedback.
As a well-paid member of the Grant Support Squad, would it not have made sense to comment on the Draft, which received 10 million VP in yes support, if you didnât feel it was adequate?
Considering the Poll received over 7.8m yes VP in support, it would seem that you should have acted sooner in expressing your concerns.
You can not refuse to collaborate in governance and then expect your wishes to be represented in the final proposal.
The manifesto is the same as last year âbetter client, better tools for creators and more onboardingâ, and after a year, the builder is still subpar, the client is still unstable and the biggest onboarding thing was Magic, which didnât take a full year to make.
We canât keep licking Foundationâs boots hoping they will follow up with the manifesto, as they havenât in the last couple years.
The same proposal that also gives 1.2M USD per year to core units? More for Core Units than for Documentation, Sponsorship and Community experiences COMBINED.
None of them is sustainable.
Come on, you are from Argentina, you know what happens when the economy is shit. Except we canât even print more MANAPesos.
So it might be time to âAfueraâ grants for a while and rebuild on clean foundations.
The DAO has never been better than the last time we paused grants. The discussion was clean and constructive, people were building cool shit for free/cheap, and the money leeches were nowhere to be seen.
i think this is totallly needed though how can we improve over all graphics of DCL if theres no funds on art?
if @HPrivakos and @theankou could take there off topic conversation somewhere else, thatâd be great.
Some of us want to hear Yarasita reply to the on topic discussion.
Its $90 an hour.
Its not about licking boots, is alignment with the DAO we are looking for to build. Its not only a product.
Then lets discuss allocation for categories, or percentages from the vesting contract to the grants program, and not cutting all grants but platform.
This is 100% arguable. Based on what exactly?
Do not delegate, alternative CONSULTING when planning DAO, do you understand the difference?
Artificial intelligence in this case can act as an arbiter, not interested in any result.
The Foundation has been lacking for a while now, we can be aligned in the direction without having to work with them.
The direction is not hard: Decentralization, better client(s) and better tools for builders.
A client with proper graphics, some lightning and nice shadows.
A good builder comparable to other platforms Decentraland compete with (including centralized ones).
100% Platform (Clients and builders), this is the perfect allocation for now.
The DAO being better when no grant is based on my perception.
In order to Dedentraland can compete with others platforms example - Meta. DecentralandDao need to invest every every⌠mana MAXIMAL rationally as possible.
Am I wrong, or is that a lot?
It seems like a lot.
What exactly do you do that commands such a high hourly rate?
Either way, the point is that you will have biases when it comes to freezing your very generous hourly rate.
Please, do your own research and document yourself before doing public defamation.
That proposal fits 100% with the platform category, was not about a simple migration.
The project provides a Multiplayer SDK and a Integration Component among other utils, It has been already integrated in other InWorld Builders or Editors Like MetaResidenceTower.
People smart enough will be aware of your lies if they look in detail. Clearly there was a conflict with economic interests between several proposals that caused some âcontroversyâ, so you can stop the defamation and change your mindset now.
You can look for example to the last update: https://decentraland.org/governance/update/?id=2061df9b-cd84-4ca2-9c6c-d57fc98e96c6
P.S.: We will never support Lobbysm, Token gating of opportunities and Cancel Culture!
plus a reminder that public defamation with lies is a serious concern
Everyone that disagrees with you is just not smart enough, I fully understand that no one can match your geniusness.
Pardon my limited intellect.
