Sometimes when trying to enter the world, errors appear that prevent the user from accessing, this can be very frustrating and even more so when messages appear with technical jargon that the common user is unable to understand.
This poll asks if the community would like to see easier-to-understand error messages that include a clear, non-technical reason for the error along with a list of possible troubleshooting steps, such as synchronizing the computer’s time, avoiding the use of VPN etc.
I don’t know how to tackle this, given the error handling has many entries, like when error are thrown passing the exception in parameter without modifying the exception message, overriding the message or handled by an exceptionHandler. It may require to impose requirements for error handling to parcel coders.
Perhaps this specific RPC call error can have its message modified easily, but there are a lot of other cases possible.
Given that each parcel can have their own code, I don’t think it’s feasible to describe every error for the DCL error page. I do not see the added value to add suggestions for fixes because they can be just too general, and misleading because too often “one size fits all”.
Thanks @Manadaiquiri, if it is not viable due to its complexity, perhaps we could discuss some idea to make that screen less frustrating, perhaps replacing the message with something generic and some possible solutions would be enough to improve that, it would not be perfect but it would be better.
Today I was able to access it, but I haven’t been able to enter for 3 times in a row and I think this scares away visitors. Maybe we could discuss something here to improve it.
PS: @maryana and @Althea, if you have a few minutes I would greatly appreciate if you could give some conclusion why it is invalid, your comments will help me make better proposals in the future Thank you.
I am here last minute whaling the votes to yes hahah jkjk, but did vote yes tho!
Error messages must be easy to read in order to know how to find a solution.
