# \[DAO: QmcPNda\] Extend Name length

I’m requesting we lengthen the Name Limit from 15 characters to 20
As for me and I’m sure plenty of other Artists are unable to Mint their true Artist Name with this cap.
When Joining the platform And trying to secure my name I was very disappointed To find that it was to long to Mint. I have had to make a similar name but not my true artist name because it was all that was available.
Some people have very long names. I wonder why there is a cap at all honestly what does it matter? I feel like this cap only hurts individuals & the platform as a whole. I was very close to not minting a Name at all but reluctantly I did. I would still like to have the ability to Mint my true Artist name some day so I would like the communities help/vote to change this cap. MuchLove ❤ OfficialCryptoCube 🧊

The cap is likely related to the ability to render the name above the Avatar in the client. Given that this is one of the main utilities of a name, would seem a bit odd to buy a name that needs to be truncated, but I understand the appeal of having the name you want regardless. It would be important that should the length be increased, consumers are made aware of potentially being truncated in world.

Thank You For your Vote @MorrisMustang And your opinion. I hope this is not the case and can’t understand why it would be. We can render a bio or msg way more then 20 characters Also billboards and signs within the game are way more why would a name be any different. Text takes almost no data why couldn’t we render it longer?

The UI would look really ugly if avatars had names that were 1000 characters long above their head.
20 is not a problem, but surely there is an upperbound before you’d truncate to maintain appropriate visuals in world.

Yes Indeed to Many characters could get Very Ugly. But I really feel 15 is just a little bit limited. 20 seems appropriate. Can’t see many people wanting to exceed that amount. Considering few of us would want to be above 15 Anyway I don’t think it would be to much of a problem. Of course this is just my Opinion 😉
